• the ability to arrange/store files relationally (files about an object-of-study are stored together, regardless of format)

• non-proprietary system with user-oriented interface,

• student access for transcriptions that can be checked by faculty (see first point on versioning).

• Institutional support (rather than bespoke and temporary products)
