Take a closer look at

• Body-worn Cameras
• Cell-Site Simulators
• Drones
• Face Recognition and VA

Get to Know

• All uniformed officers have an Axon 3 or Axon 4 Camera
• Footage accessible prosecutor and public via request (unless officer harmed)
• Capable of livestream, real time info
• Integrates with AI , FRT and potentially more
• Recent comptroller audit:
  • NYPD is slow to activate, slow to release, and need oversight  [link]

Body Worn Cameras

• aka "Stingray"
• Fake cell tower to track individual movements
• Some can intercept texts over 2G (but no evidence this is used)
• Require a warrant (as of 2017), with exceptions
• Newer models are smaller, support 5G and collecting wifi info

Cell-Site Simulator

• Variety of uses, mostly deployed for "public safety", with Chief approval
• Rapidly increasing usage
• Prone to misuse and abuse (ignoring POST act)

Drones

• FRT makes a unique "faceprint" based on image of a face
• Faceprint compared to other videos/photos
•  NYPD do not need court authorization, can use on any footage/images
• Claim it is only used situationally
• Similar case with Video Analytics

• Use a browser instead of apps!
• Use a computer instead of phone!
• Turn things off! (bluetooth, nfc, etc)

Let's install Signal

• What does it cost?
  • Nothing! it is a open source non-profit
• Why?
  • Signal offers encrypted texts between users
  • Privacy needs herd immunity
• Is it complicated?
  • It's like any other app, you can also make it your default text app on android
• What are the downsides?
  • It uses mobile data, it is secure but not anonymous-- still uses your phone #
