NUTRITION IN
AMOEBA
What is Amoeba?
Amoeba is a unicellular organism.
It has the ability to alter its shape, primarily by extending and retracting pseudopods.
Amoebae do not form a single taxonomic group; instead, they are found in every
major lineage of eukaryotic organisms.
About Amoeba
Its diet includes bacteria , microscopic plants, like diatoms , protozoa and algae
The process of obtaining food by amoebais called phagocytosis
Its diet includes bacteria , microscopic plants, like diatoms , protozoa and algae
All the process of nutrition are performed by the single cell of amoeba.
Amoeba takes in food using temporary finger like extensions which fuse over the food particle forming food vacuole.
The finger like extensions of cell surface is called pseudopodia.
Pseudopodia secretes a sticky and toxic fluid and kills the prey.
The food vacuole contains digestive enzymes which breakdown the
food in to nutrients and undigested waste.
